Software Built Where the Problem Lives

For a long time, the story sold to young builders in Uganda was simple: the real work happens somewhere else. Silicon Valley. Nairobi. Remote contracts for companies you will never meet.
I disagree.
At Altrastate Technologies, we build from Rubaga Hill in Jinja City — not because it is fashionable, but because the problems we solve are here. A parish that needs a better way to stay connected. A clinic that needs cleaner records. A shop in Jinja that needs a website that actually converts. A tourist marketplace that should put local businesses in front of visitors, not bury them under a generic template.
When you sit close to the people who will use the product, you ask better questions. You notice that “mobile first” is not a buzzword when most of your users live on Android and WhatsApp. You notice that payment flows, offline moments, and trust matter more than a flashy landing page. Digital Excellence is not imported. It is practiced — in the details, in the release, in the follow-up call after launch.
That is why we invest in two tracks at once: custom software for clients who need something built around their reality, and our own App Store for products we believe Ugandans should be able to install without friction. Exodus. Pulse Care. More coming.
If you are building something for Uganda — or for a community that looks like ours — start where the problem lives. Talk to the people. Ship a first version. Improve it in public. The map of African tech is still being drawn, and Jinja deserves a line on it.
